Ride To Eat Photo Gallery

We all eat lunch, it's just that some of us are willing to travel a little bit for that meal.  Well, there is a group of us willing to travel, oh, say 300+ miles for lunch.  That's just what we did in early August 2007.  A group of us from across Minnesota and Wisconsin (and Florida) got together in Copper Harbor, Michigan to kick the tires, trade stories, and have lunch.

You see, it all came about for us when I came across a Ride for Lunch meeting listed on the Motorcycle Tourer's Forum (http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTourer/).  I just had to go.  There were lots of good reasons.  The ride to Brockway Mountain was my very first "long" distance motorcycle ride back in 2000, I went to college at Michigan Tech, we had a chance to meet some new and interesting people, and Susan and I were on an adventurous summer anyway.  So, the plans were laid and the motel booked.  As you can see, the weather was postcard picture perfect.

I get visitors from all over the world and I like to hear comments.  Please drop me a note on my Feedback Page if you find any of this helpful or interesting.

- I spent three of my college years in this place.  Doesn't look like it's changed much.  I guess college students will live anywhere it's cheap. (Kind of looks like the Ghost Town?)

Ghost Town

Central, Michigan

- The Central Mine was the first mine to be profitable its first year (1854).  Very few mines were profitable at all.  And the days of mining copper were strong for only a short time, dwindling down by 1900.

- Copper mining started in 1844 and boomed until the 1870s.  Here is a typical miners home, restored to its glory.

- In the top five for roads, for me, is Hwy 26 on a clear blue day.

- This was the view from our motel room.  It doesn't get any better than this.

- My first long ride ever was to this spot.  Back then (2000), a long ride was 300 miles.  Now, it's 300+ before lunch.

- Susan checking in to see if Amy is okay.  On top of the mountain was the only place we could get cell phone reception.  Oh, technology.

- The Gift Shop closed at sundown.  But, the owner was kind enough to make sure everyone had a chance to stop by.

- We even had the opportunity to see two ships pass in the night.

- And now the sun is down and Susan is reflecting on the days activities.  It's time to go back to the King Copper and get some rest.

Fort Wilkinson State Park

- Created in 1844-46 to make sure there was law and order in the area, it really was isolated from the rest of the world.
